World Series Game 7 Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting 11-inning contest where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51 million spectators across the US, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB announced this is the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – recorded 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series averaged 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen different tongues.
