An individual who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two children who were between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was held in detention before a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.
Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in July 2025.
The legal representative added: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said materials including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated the man went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six youngsters that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the events.
The legal representative stated the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member notified the law enforcement again.
She stated Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
