Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for information.
A senior official stated the vandalism made him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
